Now more than ever children need academic support as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Significant changes in traditional school models are felt by many children and families. A strain has been placed on children’s social life and learning. We know that in some situations, technology accessibility is limited, and as a result, students are depending on work packets for their learning, with limited instructional support. Our ‘new normal’ for in person learning could potentially result in long-term consequences on academic outcomes and skill growth for students. Learning barriers and educational disparities are creating a gap between high- and low-achieving students for many children, which is likely increasing inequalities.
NOAH Net, Inc is pleased to announce its newest project Service Champions. Service Champions is a virtual tutoring program for middle and elementary students in need of academic support. Service Champions is a volunteer based and ran program. Tutors are high performing high school students who are passionate about engaging in community service and leveling the playing field, so all students have an equal chance to succeed. This program provides tutoring via video conferencing where faces can be seen, and screens can be shared. This program strives to remove learning barriers and educational disparities for marginalized students.
Please note: Parental consent is required for both Service Champions volunteers and student participants receiving tutoring. Additionally, a parent, caregiver or another adult must be present for the Service Champions student participant during tutoring sessions. Each tutoring session will last between 30-40 minutes. All sessions will be recorded and provided to the parents or caregiver of Service Champions student participant via email immediately following each tutoring sessions. All tutoring session recording will be maintained by NOAH Net, INC.
The goal of Service Champions is to provide academic support free of charge to students in need of improving their academic performance. Benefits for Service Champions students receiving tutoring include: • Individual and unique learning experience • One-on-one attention • Improved academic performance • Improved attitude towards learning and school • Increased self-esteem and confidence • Improved work and study habits • A potential mentoring relationship
